Local and Map Advertising: Whoever Can Reach You
Your advert appears to someone two hours away. They click, they read, and they leave — and you pay.
Local Advertising: Whoever Can Reach You
By the end of this lesson you will be able to:
- Understand local advertising is a geographic constraint, not an audience trait
- Distinguish the three local intents and what wins each
- Know the three differences, chiefly that the conversion happens off screen
- Distinguish the four cases where this does not concern you, the most honest being nobody answering the phone
Your advert appears to someone two hours away.
They click, they read, and they leave ← and you pay.
The rule
You pay for whoever can reach you — not whoever resembles you.
Ordinary advertising looks for whoever resembles your buyer ← **and local advertising looks for whoever
can come**.
And this is a constraint, not a trait ← **whoever serves one city has everyone outside it as waste,
however well matched in everything else**.
Three different local intents
People search locally with three intents, not one:
1. "I want it now" ← a search for an urgent service, or a place open now ← **the most valuable
intent, and the least patient**.
2. "Where is this?" ← they know what they want and are looking for the nearest who has it.
3. "Who is best?" ← they compare three or four before moving.
And the first is won by availability and speed ← the second by proximity and clarity ← **the third by
evidence** (lesson six).
And whoever treats all three with the same advert loses two.
What distinguishes this channel
Three practical differences:
1. The conversion happens off screen ← a call, directions, or a visit ← **and that is the whole of
lesson five**.
2. The competition is near ← whoever appears beside you is on your street, not in the world.
3. Your listing is part of the advert ← **what people see about you is not only text you wrote, but
published information** (lesson two).
And the third is what surprises people ← **so they improve the advert while what spoils it is not in
it**.
When this course does not concern you
Four explicit cases:
1. You sell everywhere ← **a store shipping nationwide with no difference between one city and
another ← your place is general search or shopping**.
2. You have no place and no defined service area ← work that is entirely remote.
3. Nobody answers the phone ← **the call is the most important conversion here, and an unanswered call is
an advert paid for and thrown away**.
4. Nobody can find you when they arrive ← a wrong address, or an entrance nobody sees ← **so you are
paying to deliver people into confusion**.
And the third is the most honest ← whoever ignores it is buying anger at the price of a click.
Its relationship to the local SEO book
A fair question: you have a book about local visibility — so why a course?
Because they are two things:
The "Local SEO" book ← visibility without paying: **your listing, your pages, the phrases as they are
actually typed, and consistency between what is published about you everywhere ← a foundation that
remains after you stop advertising**.
And this course ← the paying: **the radius, smart campaigns, off-screen conversions, the measurement,
and when not to pay at all**.
And the order: that one before this ← **whoever advertises on an incomplete listing pays to deliver
people into a void**.
And I will repeat nothing here from there ← **not how your listing is set up, not how Arabic phrases are
written, and not how consistency is built**.
What this course does not do
I will not explain the interface buttons or name a platform. Screens change ← **and what does not
change is that local advertising is a geographic constraint, an off-screen conversion, and evidence read
before the click**.
And I will not state an amount or a rate.
And I will not promise you advertising fills your shop. **Advertising brings whoever was coming anyway
sooner, and brings whoever did not know you ← and creates no demand that does not exist around you**.
Action steps
- Write the rule: you pay for whoever can reach you.
- Write your actual service area — not your ambition.
- Classify your three intents and which matters most to you.
- Go through the four cases where this does not concern you.
- Call your own number from another phone — and read what happened.
- Confirm your listing is in order before you pay.
- Read the "Local SEO" book if you have not set the foundation.
- Do not advertise to whoever cannot reach you — however well matched.
